Detox From The Holidays

I love the Holidays...but I indulge a little too much. Halloween and Thanksgiving have just come and gone, and Christmas is on its way.  If you feel anything like I do, you want to try and rid your body of toxins and get your energy back.

Apparently, I am not alone.  Last night, my friend Stacy, texted me and suggested I do my next blog entry on recipes that help you detox from Thanksgiving.  Obviously, I thought it was a great idea, and am taking her advice.  She must have read my mind...but all weekend I felt like I had gained 10 lbs, after enjoying all of the delicious and rich food and drinks that come along with Thanksgiving.

I am starting a, "Weekly Recipe Round Up", where every Monday I will be posting a weeks worth of recipes. I will start it off with a few detox recipes.  I hope the below recipes will help you feel less bloated and give you your energy back :)

Monday
Avocado is a great food to help detox. They aid in making the intestinal walls slippery, helping the toxins to be absorbed by the oil, and removed from the body.

Tuesday
Beets contain a fiber called, Pectin, which aids in cleaning the toxins that have been eliminated from the liver, allowing the to be eliminated from your body, and not reabsorbed.

Wednesday
Garlic is full of antioxidants, and aids in the destruction of free radicals (particles that can mutate cell membranes and DNA, and potentially speed up the aging process as well as increase the risk for heart disease and cancer.) Antioxidants neutralize free radicals and may reduce or even help prevent some of the damage they cause over time.

Thursday
Kale contains chlorophyll which helps boost your digestive tract and liver, ridding your body of harmful chemicals and toxins.

Friday
Grapefruit jump-starts the digestive system and helps calm heartburn, gas and bloating. It also aids in lowering cholesterol and preventing breast cancer.

Saturday
Fruit Infused Water
Add strawberries, lemons, limes, oranges & mint to some ice water & enjoy!
Citurs fruits help the body rid itself of toxins, as well as help the digestive tract with enzymatic processes. Citrus fruits also help cleanse the liver.

Sunday
Kombucha is known to balance the pH of the blood which helps kill pathogenic bacteria.
My favorite is GT's Guava Goddess

I hope that these recipes help you get back on track.  I know I will be making a few of these recipes this week. Happy Monday!!
